Thank you for investing in Claris® software. We hope that you are finding MacDraw Pro to be enjoyable and useful. From time to time, we produce maintenance updates of our software, primarily to correct minor defects that affect a small percentage of our customer base. We’d like to make it as convenient as possible for you to obtain these new versions and enjoy their benefits.
Updates, in contrast to upgrades, contain few changes from the previous version. Instead of distributing the full, revised application, we can provide just the files necessary to incorporate the new functionality and fixes. When you run the accompanying Updater, it will automatically combine your original MacDraw Pro 1.5v1 or MacDraw Pro 1.5v2 application with the new changes to create a new application, MacDraw Pro version 1.5v3.
This document describes the steps you take to apply the update. You may want to print it out if this is the first update you’ve installed. Once you have run the updater, please read the Release Notes section later in this document.
This update package consists of the "MacDraw Pro 1.5v3 Updater", an application updater for the MacDraw Pro application, and this "Updater Instructions" document.
Technical Considerations
Hard Disk Space
You’ll need enough room for a copy of the original application and the new version (approximately 3 megabytes of disk space for both).
Virus Detection Software
The Updater makes several changes to the resources in MacDraw Pro. Many virus utilities consider this activity improper and may try to prevent it, and some of these utilities are not turned off by restarting while holding down the shift key. To avoid this inconvenience, disable all virus detection software before applying the update. To do so, you may have to temporarily remove the utilities from your system folder, then restart. After the program has been updated, put the utilities back in the proper location and restart. See the documentation that came with the utility for information on deinstallation.
Updater Instructions
1. Hold down your shift key and restart your Macintosh. You can lift up on the shift key when you see the message, ‘Welcome to Macintosh Extensions Off.’ This will help make sure that nothing on your system will conflict with the Updater. If your computer will not start up with the shift key held down, restart without holding down the shift key and go on to the next step.
2. Make a copy of your original MacDraw Pro by single clicking the application icon in the Finder and selecting Duplicate from the file menu.
3. Make a new folder and place the duplicated MacDraw Pro and a copy of the “MacDraw Pro 1.5v3 Updater” into this folder. After moving the application into the new folder you can change its name to "MacDraw Pro" from "MacDraw Pro copy"
4. Double-click the MacDraw Pro 1.5v3 Updater in the new folder. In the UpdateMaker dialog box, make sure the MacDraw Pro application in the new folder is selected in the list and click Update.
5. The update will take a few minutes. When the update is completed, a message is displayed confirming a successful installation of the new version, or an indication of what went wrong if there is a problem.
6. Verify that the update was successful by opening MacDraw Pro and create a new document. Once the application is running select “About MacDraw Pro” from the Apple menu and click the Info button in the dialog. The version number at the top of the list should be “MacDraw Pro 1.5v3• March 1994”.
7. Once you have verified that the update was successful throw away the original MacDraw Pro application to avoid any confusion and restart your Macintosh without the shift key down to enable your extensions.
MacDraw Pro 1.5v3 Release notes
This version of MacDraw Pro fixes a problem with placing library objects while running on a Power Macintosh in emulation mode.
MacDraw Pro 1.5v2 Release notes (for those updating from 1.5v1)
A PICT import bug was fixed. Under certain circumstances, open polygons were closed when they were imported.
A PICT export bug was fixed. Under certain circumstances, a rounding error would cause objects to be clipped when opened in other applications.
A text entry bug was fixed. Text was lost when entering text by clicking in the document and changing Font and Size attributes through their associated dialogs.
A Gridline display bug was fixed. When running System 6.0.x with millions of colors, MacDraw Pro 1.5 displayed solid gridlines when the Screen buffer was turned off.
An Open Application (oapp) Apple event bug was fixed. A system crash occurred when sending an oapp event when MacDraw Pro 1.5 was already open and in the background.
The "Command-Option-Space" key sequence used to hide and show the Tool and Style bars, has been extended to include "Command-Option-Tab". This key sequence was added for use with system 7.1. Note that either "Command-Option-Space" or "Command-Option-Tab" will work when running systems 6.0.x or 7.0.x.

The enclosed computer program is an update (the “Update”) to MacDraw Pro 1.5v1, 1.5v2, or 1.5v3 (the “Software”). In order to use and/or copy the Update as authorized by this License, you must have validly licensed at least one copy of the Software. You are required to have a validly licensed copy of the Software for each copy of the Update made hereunder. The Update and the copies authorized herein replace your validly licensed copies of the Software and are not additional copies (i.e., you may not use the Update in addition to the Software the Update is replacing).
The Update is licensed, not sold, to you by Claris Corporation (“Claris”) for use only under the terms of this License, and Claris reserves any rights not expressly granted to you. You own the disk(s) on which the Update is recorded or fixed, but Claris and its licensers retain ownership of the Update itself.
1. License. This License allows you to (i) make copies of the Update, only up to the number of validly licensed copies of the Software in your possession and (ii) use each such authorized copy on a single computer at a time. You are required to have a validly licensed copy of the Software for each copy of the Update made hereunder. The Update and the copies authorized herein replace your validly licensed copies of the Software and are not additional copies. To “use” the Update means that the Update is either loaded in the temporary memory (i.e., RAM) of a computer or installed on the permanent memory of a computer (i.e., hard disk, CD ROM, etc.). You may use at one time as many copies of the Update as you have licenses for. You may install the Update on a common storage device shared by multiple computers, provided that if you have more computers having access to the common storage device than the number of licensed copies of the Update, you must have some software mechanism which locks-out any concurrent users in excess of the number of licensed copies of the Update (an additional License is not needed for the one copy of the Update stored on the common storage device accessed by multiple computers). Upon such termination you must destroy the Update, all accompanying written materials, and all copies thereof. You may also terminate this License at any time by destroying the Update, all accompanying written materials and all copies thereof.
4. Export Law Assurances. You agree that neither the Update nor any direct product thereof is being or will be shipped, transferred or reexported, directly or indirectly, into any country prohibited by the United States Export Administration Act and the regulations thereunder or will be used for any purpose prohibited by the Act.
5. Limited Warranty and Disclaimer, Limitation of Remedies and Damages. YOU ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THE UPDATE MAY NOT SATISFY ALL YOUR REQUIREMENTS OR BE FREE FROM DEFECTS. CLARIS WARRANTS THE DISKETTES ON WHICH THE UPDATE IS RECORDED TO BE FREE FROM DEFECTS IN MATERIALS AND WORKMANSHIP UNDER NORMAL USE FOR 90 DAYS FROM PURCHASE, BUT THE UPDATE AND ACCOMPANYING WRITTEN MATERIALS ARE LICENSED "AS IS." ALL IMPLIED WARRANTIES AND CONDITIONS (INCLUDING ANY IMPLIED WARRANTY OF MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE) ARE DISCLAIMED AS TO THE UPDATE AND ACCOMPANYING WRITTEN MATERIALS AND LIMITED TO 90 DAYS AS TO THE DISKETTES. YOUR EXCLUSIVE REMEDY FOR BREACH OF WARRANTY WILL BE THE REPLACEMENT OF THE DISKETTES OR REFUND OF THE PURCHASE PRICE. Claris' liability to you for actual damages for any cause whatsoever, and regardless of the form of the action, will be limited to the greater of $500 or the money paid for the Update that caused the damages.
THE ABOVE LIMITATIONS WILL NOT APPLY IN CASE OF PERSONAL INJURY ONLY WHERE AND TO THE EXTENT THAT APPLICABLE LAW REQUIRES SUCH LIABILITY. BECAUSE SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW THE EXCLUSION OR LIMITATION OF IMPLIED WARRANTIES OR LIABILITY FOR CONSEQUENTIAL OR INCIDENTAL DAMAGES, THE ABOVE LIMITATIONS MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU.
6. General. This License will be construed under the laws of the State of California, except for that body of law dealing with conflicts of law. If any provision of this License shall be held by a court of competent jurisdiction to be contrary to law, that provision will be enforced to the maximum extent permissible, and the remaining provisions of this License will remain in full force and effect. If you are a U.S. Government end-user, this License of the Update conveys only "RESTRICTED RIGHTS," and its use, disclosure and duplication are subject to Federal Acquisition Regulations, 52.227-7013 (c) (1) (ii).
